I recently jumped into a new Helldivers match and noticed two teammates struggling against enemies while another player on a hilltop kept sniping me repeatedly. Even after multiple deaths and reinforcements, this player continued to target me, leading to a frustrating back-and-forth that wasted time and ruined the objective. When I tried to report them for team killing, the game said it wasn’t a valid reason to report. I get that accidental friendly fire happens, but being deliberately targeted over and over feels like griefing and really kills the fun. Is there a proper way to handle this kind of behavior, or am I stuck just dealing with it?

One thing you could try is hosting your own games and kicking out anyone who’s being toxic or griefing. Yeah, it’s not a perfect solution because not everyone can be a host or always find players, especially if you’re playing outside peak hours. But when possible, it helps maintain a better experience since you control who joins.
Why not flip the script? Sometimes I just turn the game into PvP in my head when someone starts team killing me. Like, let’s see who’s better at dodging and sniping. I grab explosives or killstreaks and either try to break away or get back at them to make it more of a cat-and-mouse game. It’s not perfect, but it can turn frustration into a bit of chaotic fun. For the real issue though, yeah, the report system sadly is pretty useless when it comes to griefers.
From what I’ve seen, reporting for team killing in Helldivers just doesn’t work because the system relies on PSN’s reporting features, which don’t really handle in-game friendly fire reports well. The common advice is to block the offender and move on. It’s pretty frustrating, but unfortunately, that’s the only real tool you have to avoid repeated griefers.
Honestly, the best move when someone is griefing in Helldivers is to just leave the match or block them if possible. The game doesn’t really have a robust report system for intentional team killing, so your options are limited. Since reinforcements are easy to get and you can rejoin or host your own games, it’s usually better to cut your losses and find a better group rather than stick around and get taken down repeatedly.
Yeah, I get that leaving is the easiest option, but sometimes it feels like giving in. Plus, finding games where people aren’t griefing can be tough, especially at odd hours.
I think a cool idea would be a player-driven system where you could upvote or commend good teammates after matches. Then, matchmaking would try to pair people with high ‘good behavior’ ratings together. It wouldn’t fix everything and might be open to abuse, but at least it would give players more control over who they end up playing with. Unfortunately, Helldivers 2 dropped the commendation feature the first game had, so we don’t have that yet.
True. Hosting is a decent workaround, but it doesn’t solve the bigger problem for the majority who can’t always get good groups or host themselves.
