I’ve been playing World of Tanks for over 12 years, and I’ve noticed something interesting: getting better at the game doesn’t always make it more fun. Sometimes, the players who aren’t as skilled seem to be having the most fun! This got me thinking about how our feelings toward WoT change as we improve and spend more time in it. The game has been with many of us through different stages of life, and our enjoyment probably goes through ups and downs. What kind of player are you now compared to when you started? What aspects of the game have gotten better or worse as you’ve improved? Are there certain times when different types of players enjoy the game more? And has nostalgia or burnout shaped how you feel about it? I’d love to hear how your personal WoT journey has influenced how fun the game is for you.

To be honest, for me, not much has changed — World of Tanks has stayed pretty much the same in enjoyment over time.
Yeah, the game can definitely get toxic at times, but I still love playing tanks to punish other players. Using tank destroyers like the SU-152 or heavy hitters like Char B1 is just really fun for me. That said, I get that the toxicity isn’t healthy for the game’s overall community.
I started playing WoT back in 2014 after getting fed up with a Facebook tank game that was basically a poor man’s WoT. For years I just casually played, mostly grinding the Super Pershing and making my way up the tech tree slowly. Around 2018, I got a lot more into the game as I had more free time. I now have quite a collection of tanks and generally consider myself an average player. I’ve never really spent much on premium tanks, just pay for premium time so I’m not grinding endlessly for credits. For me, being good in the game really means learning patience, but honestly, that patience thing can sometimes drain the fun out for me.
For me, the biggest thing that’s kept me playing since the launch is not taking the game too seriously and stepping away to take breaks when needed. It really helps avoid burnout and keeps the game feeling fresh instead of a grind.
Life kinda caught up with me and I had to step back from WoT. Burnouts happen and sometimes real-life responsibilities just take priority, so I haven’t been playing as much.
Honestly, I think I’ve lost some of the excitement because I’ve run out of new tank lines to grind. There’s just less to look forward to now, which makes the game feel a bit stale sometimes.
