I’ve been searching for a game that can capture the thrill I experienced with Final Fantasy Tactics (FFT). I’ve tried the FFT GameBoy Advance games, but they felt too friendly, and the Tactics Ogre remake just dragged on with a dull skill tree. I spotted Triangle Strategy on sale and I’m curious—does it bring back any of that FFT magic? Did anyone here enjoy it?

I haven’t played Triangle Strategy myself, but from what I’ve heard, it doesn’t really compare to FFT. If you’re looking for something more akin to FFT’s gameplay, check out Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark. It’s similar but improves upon many gameplay aspects, even if the story isn’t groundbreaking.
The gameplay is simpler than FFT, with fewer options and classes for each character. However, it dives deep into storytelling, letting player choices influence the plot branches, leading to very different character experiences. If you’re more into story than gameplay, Triangle Strategy might be worth it. Just keep in mind, it’s not as gameplay-focused as FFT.
If you’re looking for a true FFT experience, I think Unicorn Overlord might be more your style than Triangle Strategy. You might find it aligns better with what you’re searching for.
I mostly found Triangle Strategy underwhelming. While it’s a well-made game, it just wasn’t what I was hoping for. The characters lack customization and feel more like preset roles, which took away from the experience for me. The story is okay, but there are long stretches where I just wanted to get back to playing, which felt tedious compared to FFT.
Think of Triangle Strategy like a streamlined FFT, where each character sticks to one class but you get to do some minor customizations. It offers a rich story with multiple playthroughs to discover different characters and routes. It was enjoyable for me, but don’t expect the complexity of FFT.
