How Does the Ghoul Update Affect Junkies and Addictions?

-

I’m wondering about the recent changes in the PTS related to ghouls and addiction mechanics, especially concerning my Junkie Mule. Originally, I figured that my character would become a ghoul, and the mechanics of feral meters would align well with chem use. However, I’ve come across differing opinions suggesting that ghouls might not get addictions like other characters do, or that taking chems could somehow alleviate withdrawal symptoms.

So here’s my question: if a smoothskin who’s already addicted becomes a ghoul, will those addictions be wiped clean, or can they just no longer get addicted? Also, if I can keep my pre-ghoul addictions, does that mean I can take chems (like Tic Tacs) to boost my feral meter without facing withdrawal? Let me know if I’m missing something important!

To add some background, ghouls can definitely be addicts, but they’re typically more resistant to chem effects. That might mean that if there are any changes made, it could increase the chance of addiction for ghouls by tweaking how chems affect them. But honestly, that’s just speculation at this point. Bethesda might surprise us!

That’s a good point! I hope they clarify how this will work for ghouls. Sounds like it could really change the game!

Interesting take! So you’re saying even with these updates, ghouls could still have issues with addiction, just like everyone else?

From what I’ve gathered in the PTS, becoming a ghoul clears any existing addictions. However, if you start using chems again after transformation, those addictions can return. There’s no concrete evidence that ghouls are immune to addictions, which makes sense since the feral meter is essentially tied to addiction mechanics. You might want to keep 6 addictions handy and designate one chem as your go-to snack to avoid issues with junkie damage, especially since ghouls can’t access the chem resistance perk to prevent new addictions.

Thanks for the clear answer! I appreciate it. The part about chems reducing the feral meter and all that makes sense, but it’s a bummer that ghouls can’t just bypass addictions more easily. Got it!

Wait, just to clarify—ghouls can’t use chem resistance? That seems like a big drawback!
