I just picked up Halo: The Master Chief Collection and I’m excited to play the original games first. I want to experience what they were like before checking out the remasters, so I can appreciate the updates even more. I noticed there’s an option to toggle the original graphics on and off. Are the original games in MCC identical to how they were at launch?

Yes, overall they feel like the originals. There are minor differences that hardcore fans might point out, but the team really put effort into making sure they match the original games pretty well.
Yeah, they’re not exact 1:1 ports, but they’ve been patched up to be pretty close to the originals. Initially, they were based on the PC ports which had some visual flaws, but 343 worked on fixing those to make them look more like the original Xbox versions. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely much better than it used to be.
They mimic the originals quite well, especially Halo 1 and 2. While they started as PC ports, the developers did a lot to iron out the old PC issues. Halo 3 and Reach are more straightforward ports with a few minor adjustments, like the removal of the blur in Reach’s visuals. Overall, the classic quirks and bugs are still present, along with a toggle for the old aiming style if you don’t like diagonals!
Mostly, yes! Although I’ve noticed that Halo 4 in the MCC doesn’t look as good compared to the Xbox 360 version; something about the lighting seems off. But for the most part, Halo 1 and 2 play just like they did back in the day, just with nicer graphics and improved performance!
That’s a bummer about Halo 4. Hope they’ll fix it eventually!
Sounds like a cool feature! I might try that out for some fun.
