Hey everyone, I’m eagerly waiting for a potential Nintendo Switch 2 port, but in the meantime, I’m curious about how the combat feels in the Oblivion remaster compared to Skyrim. I played Oblivion ages ago when I was about 12 and loved its world and quests, but I remember the combat being a bit tedious with those endless health bars, especially for mage characters. I know they’ve made some changes to leveling, but does higher-level gameplay feel better than before?

Combat in the remaster is pretty much the same as before—hit enemies until they’re down. You’ve got normal attacks, power attacks, blocking, and some spell casting, but it’s all pretty simple. Playing on normal difficulty is the way to go; higher difficulties just make combat feel more boring since enemies become tougher without adding any fun mechanics.
Honestly, the combat feels much improved over the original Oblivion. The animations are better and hits feel more satisfying, though the movement is still a bit floaty. Difficulty wise, Adept can be super easy, especially if you’re prepared, whereas Expert throws some serious spongy enemies at you. Just be cautious with leveling because it feels like enemies ramp up in difficulty a lot faster now.
For sure! You need to be smart about leveling. I’ve seen players say it’s easier to wait to tackle tough areas until at least level 20.
Skyrim still has a more weighty feeling to its combat, but the remaster definitely feels better than the original Oblivion. The remastered combat mechanics are more than enough to enjoy the game!
If you’re not feeling up to combat, crafting a strong destruction spell can make things easy. You can also approach battles in various ways, like using a claymore for hit-and-run tactics or going heavy defense. And if combat isn’t your thing, go for illusions to avoid it altogether!
It’s a beautiful game and the combat is definitely more enjoyable than the original. If you can grab it for a low price, I’d say go for it! You’ll have a good time.
Totally agree! Higher difficulties in Oblivion can be frustrating, especially since you miss out on leveling due to the low XP gains.
