Hey everyone! I wanted to get your thoughts on how you approach new Pokémon games. Back when HeartGold and SoulSilver came out, I played through the games with a friend. He finished in just two days by trading over all his level 100 Pokémon from Platinum. When he asked if I had beaten the game yet and I said no, he was all like, ‘That’s not how you should play!’ It took me six days to complete my game, including beating Red at Mt. Silver.
For me, I love to explore, experiment, and actually level up my Pokémon. Just breezing through with level 100s feels like a waste of a new game experience. I do enjoy using overpowered Pokémon and messing around with glitches in the older games sometimes, but I find it pointless to buy a new game just to dominate with maxed-out Pokémon.
So my question is, how many of you trade your level 100s into new Pokémon games and just steamroll through everything? I believe there isn’t a right way to play—just curious what you all think!

That’s a good point! I wonder how your friend managed to get those level 100s to listen without any badges. It must’ve been frustrating having to hit the same attack several times before it worked. Seems like trading them over just kinda ruins the challenge, right?
Honestly, I find that steamrolling games isn’t enjoyable. I like building new teams each time I play and exploring different Pokémon. There really is no wrong way to enjoy them—just have fun!
I totally get where you’re coming from! I think playing without overleveling allows for more fun and surprises. The whole point of Pokémon is to raise and bond with them, right? It does feel like achievement hunting, but with no real achievements from Nintendo.
Yeah, it feels counterproductive to just bulldoze through everything with super high-level Pokémon. If I’m gonna trade, it’s usually for old teams to tackle battle facilities or tougher challenges, not just to wipe the floor with everything. Just doesn’t sound like fun to me!
