I had hoped this girl would be useful during the storm shield defenses, but she has pretty much spent the entire time complaining about having no ammo. How do i give defenders more ammo?

You give them ammo the exact same way that you would give them weapons. Stand next to them, open up your inventory, go over to the ammo tab and click on the right analog stick to drop ammo. The controls are listed at the bottom of the screen for this.
