I’m having a tough time getting the hang of Divinity Original Sin 2, especially the console controls. I’ve heard mixed reviews about Baldur’s Gate 3’s controls, so I’m curious if they’ve made any improvements in this area. Can anyone share their experience?

They’re workable but not the most enjoyable experience overall. I ended up going back to keyboard and mouse after trying on a controller, just found it hard to adapt.
If you get used to the game with a controller, the controls feel pretty solid. But I have to warn you, switching from keyboard and mouse to a controller could be tricky at first. I did put in about 40 or 50 hours on Divinity Original Sin 2 before switching and I didn’t recall having too many issues with the controls, so it might take some getting used to.
The controller setup isn’t perfect and can get frustrating, especially for inventory management—it can be a hassle! I did my first playthrough using mouse and keyboard and then switched to a controller for my second. After about 20-30 minutes of adjustment, I felt comfortable, especially since it also tweaks the HUD for controller use.
I personally find the controls in Baldur’s Gate 3 to be a step up from the typical console UI. It’s really well designed for controllers, featuring an intuitive hub wheel for quick access to actions. I was able to customize mine for easy access and muscle memory, which made gameplay smoother for me.
