Hey everyone! I’m looking to get back into Destiny 2 after playing the first two games at launch and sticking around until part of Shadowkeep. I have all the expansions except for Final Shape. Back in the day, I played with a group of friends using voice chat, but they’ve since moved on. I’m curious about how players communicate these days while playing. Do most people use voice chat or stick with text? How do you usually interact with randoms versus your in-game friends? I’m focused mainly on PvE content and I’m hoping for some sociability during my gaming sessions.

I usually stick to voice with my friends but go for text chat with random players. It feels a bit awkward to initiate voice with people you just met. You’re not alone in feeling this way!
Finding a clan is definitely your best move! If you join one with an active Discord, you’ll have way more chances to team up with people who actually talk and communicate. Otherwise, you’ll end up in LFG groups where nobody has mics and ignore the text chat.
Definitely consider using Discord! That’s often the main communication tool outside of in-game chat. A lot of players prefer that for its ease and reliability.
If you don’t have a clan, text chat is your best friend. Remember to toggle between ‘team’ and ‘fire team’ based on your situation. I usually have voice chat available, but I rarely use it unless someone else does because people can be a little shy about talking.
I’ve been playing with just Xbox party chat or sometimes not at all. It really varies depending on who I’m playing with, but honestly, I enjoy the gameplay without the noise sometimes.
Exactly! Without an active clan, those random groups can be a little dead. It’s so much more fun to play with a crew that’s all about teamwork.
