Hey everyone, I started playing Diablo 4 last month and I’ve hit a wall at Paragon level 154 with my Necromancer. My gear is a mix of legendary and named items, and while I’ve made some progress using minions and abilities like bone spear and decompose, I keep running into a big problem.
I seem to keep getting instantly killed during fights, especially when I clear areas like the Pit or during the Infernal Arena. There are these elite mobs that explode on death or trigger massive area damage, and I just can’t figure out what’s causing it. My character has three auras and I’m constantly triggering explosions from my corpse-explosion ring and my golem and skeletal mages, so it gets chaotic fast.
I’m looking for advice on what resistances I should focus on to avoid these sudden deaths. I feel stuck at Pit 30 and want to improve my situation, especially for tougher encounters like Lilith in the capstone dungeon. Any tips or build suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Don’t forget to cap your resistances and armor! Always keep moving instead of standing still – that can make a huge difference. If you’re in a tight spot, using Blood Mist can help you escape tough situations.
It sounds like you’re struggling with Shadow damage specifically. To help with it, equip Amethyst gems in your jewelry slots. Generally, I go for Ruby for fire resist, Emerald for poison, and Topaz for lightning until I can get gear with solid total resistances. Also, prioritize getting health for your gear while tempering resistances on items that you plan to replace later. This way, you can start building some survivability now.
The explosions do have a visual cue and their own sound effect, so keep an ear out! I’ve found that the poison explosions tend to catch me off guard the most, so be aware of that.
If you’re facing max health issues, make sure you’re stacking health bonuses on gear before going all out on other aspects. It might save you from those nasty blows!
Okay, thank you! I’ll check my resistances tomorrow to identify what I need to improve.
