I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 for about a week now and mainly bought the expansion starter pack to see if I’d enjoy the game. I’ve hit a bit of a snag, though. From what I understand, I need to buy the Living World stories in order, such as Main story, LS1, LS2, then get Heart of Thorns, and finally LS3 and Path of Fire. Since I’m waiting for a sale to buy more content, I’m facing issues with progression because a lot of the mount features are locked behind the Path of Fire story. I can’t even level up my raptor or access the maps from the expansion without completing parts of the story, which is frustrating! Should I just put the game on hold until I purchase everything? What’s the best way to approach this?

If funding is a concern, remember you can convert in-game gold to gems and purchase the Living World episodes from the gem store. I know a YouTuber who did a series where he only got expansions and bought all Living World episodes using in-game currency. It’s a great way to avoid the full price!
Glad to help! It’s all about finding a way that fits your style.
You don’t need to worry too much about mounts until Path of Fire. Everything before that is totally doable on foot, and since you bought the expansion, you’ll get the basic raptor mount anyway, which is pretty handy for traversing certain terrains. My advice is to relax and enjoy the story at your own pace for now. Once there’s a sale, grab the rest and unlock mounts naturally through story progress.
I’m in the same position, waiting to unlock mounts and other features while trying to progress through the story. Honestly, I’m not in a hurry, and you shouldn’t feel rushed either. Take your time, enjoy the experience, and when you’re ready, you can dive into the expansions and unlock all those features!
Unfortunately, there’s no shortcut for unlocking mounts until you complete the respective story chapters. If you want to experience the storyline as it was released, you won’t have access to mounts, gliders, or other features until you reach the right points in the game. I’d recommend sticking with the story, even if it means just using your base raptor for a while. Remember, everyone else went through the same grind in the beginning, so you’re not alone!
True, I guess that’s my only option now! Just hoping for some good summer sales.
It’s totally worth taking your time with the story. You’ll enjoy it more that way!
It can be a bit confusing navigating the unlocks, especially since Living World seasons are not considered expansions. You definitely need to play through them to stay up to date with the stories. Don’t rush, though—most players have gone through the story in a haphazard manner, and in the end, it’s all about enjoying your journey at your own pace!
Good point! Maybe I shouldn’t stress so much about rushing through.
Exactly, just take it slow and relish each part of the story!
That might be a good option for me! Thanks for the tip.
