Hey everyone! I’m diving into retro gaming and have several classic systems like the SNES, GameCube, N64, and Genesis. I’m looking to set up a way to capture gameplay video and audio, ideally to start a YouTube channel or just to share my gaming sessions with friends. I already have a RetroTink 2X upscaler, which converts S-Video to HDMI, but I mainly play on a 36″ CRT TV and use an HDMI to Composite for that setup. I’m curious if this EVGA capture card would work for my needs, as I’ve never used a capture card before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I hear you on starting a channel! For capturing from a CRT, I’ve been considering just filming directly with a camera. One YouTuber I follow does that, and it looks great!
That capture card should do the trick! It scales all inputs to 1080p, which might not be perfect for 480p sources like the SNES, but it’ll definitely work for what you want. It’s also pretty affordable, so it’s a good option if you’re just starting out.
Gotcha! But if I want the best quality for 480p, what should I look for in a capture device?
But wouldn’t the refresh rates make it tricky to film directly from the screen?
