I’ve been thinking about Xbox’s multiplatform strategy and its potential benefits. Besides boosting game sales, could this strategy also help with their console design? If they have access to information about their competitors’ consoles before launch, they might be able to make design changes that give them an edge. What are your thoughts on this?

I think Microsoft’s strategy actually mirrors how they handle other services, like Windows and Office. They want Xbox everywhere—on various hardware, through cloud services, and so on—while maintaining a dedicated hardware line. It could work, but it’ll depend on how well they execute it.
I’m kind of baffled by what Xbox’s selling point will be. Sure, Game Pass is great now, but if other platforms are getting Xbox games too, why would anyone choose an Xbox over something else? Streaming isn’t there yet, and that makes it even more confusing for me. I’m really wondering what their long-term game plan is.
Totally agree! If they don’t give a solid reason to buy an Xbox, next-gen could be rough for them.
If the next Xbox supports Steam, they might have a real game-changer. That could open thousands of new games unavailable on competitors, but if not, they might struggle with a shrinking user base and fewer developers willing to create for it.
I doubt they’ll add Steam. Microsoft isn’t keen on sharing sales with other platforms. Plus, if devs know they can just stick to Steam, what incentive do they have to make Xbox ports?
Exactly! If there’s no Steam support, then I think their next console could face some serious challenges on the market.
It’s worth noting that they already have access to dev kits. This could give them insights into how to better position their hardware against the competition.
The best way to evaluate the strategy is to wait until the next consoles drop. There’s a lot of potential for Xbox to integrate PC games on their platform, which could draw more people looking for a console experience without the PC complexity. That could be their hook!
Exactly! Even if Game Pass goes cross-platform, it might still have limitations. Plus, you’d still need PS Plus for online play, which complicates things.
