I’m really struggling with Breath of Fire after obtaining the water jar. I assumed I needed a boat to reach the cave since I was mainly using Ryu and Nina, who don’t have any special abilities at that point. However, I later learned you can switch to Bo to walk through trees on the world map. How would players actually figure this out without any hints?

I was stuck on that part for weeks back when I first played! I ended up unlocking Warp and just running around aimlessly until I gave up and looked for help online.
You’d definitely not get far in BoF without a manual or a guide explaining all these hidden abilities.
Back in the ‘Before Times’, games came with these things called manuals that explained everything. Nowadays, we just have to rely on game guides like GameFAQs, which is a bit of a nostalgic pain.
If I remember correctly, there’s a mention of it in Bo’s hometown. It’s been a while, so I could be wrong, but NPCs often drop hints about special abilities.
I must have missed that! I talked to every NPC and didn’t catch anything about Bo’s ability. It would have really helped to have some clearer clues.
A lot of that assumption relies on having the manual, which usually explains character abilities. It’s a bummer that digital versions don’t include manuals these days, though.
I completely agree! I would have never thought to change party members without that kind of info.
What a weird way to assume we all had manuals. Not everyone has that background, you know?
