How Can We Improve the Hatchling Weapon Perk?

-

I think we can all agree that the Hatchling weapon perk isn’t holding up well compared to other options for clearing ads. The threadlings it spawns deal minimal damage and the requirements—getting just one for a precision kill or three for multikills—feel pretty weak when we have powerful perks like Voltshot, Incandescent, and Destabilizing Rounds.

What if we revamped Hatchling to work like the Colony perk, where the number of threadlings created depends on the type of enemy defeated? For example, defeating red bar enemies could give one threadling, orange bars three, and yellow bars five. Plus, we could add a mechanic where threadlings can spawn another threadling upon kill, but only once per kill. This change would significantly enhance its performance in ad clearing and make it a more viable choice within the Strand subclass. What are your thoughts?

Honestly, I think the issue lies more with the threadlings themselves than the Hatchling perk. If the threadlings got some buffs—they’re pretty much meaningless right now. They just need that extra push to make the whole perk worthwhile. Like, if they can fix their tracking and improve their damage, Hatchling could be a solid choice, no doubt!

ThreadMaster21 -

Right! It’s not just about doing damage; they need to actually do something useful in fights.

TitanSledgeHammer -

Definitely think they need to give Hatchling a boost. Changing it to spawn threadlings on damage dealt instead of just kills could open up new strategies. It could feel like a splash damage perk that really paces things out better than it does now, especially for mid-tier content. What if they also added the ability for threadlings to create additional threadlings on their own kills?

WraithHunter42 -

Yes! That would be a game-changer, letting them chain. I hope they consider something like this!

NinjaPanda87 -

I agree! They could really push the envelope with this perk if they played around with some of these ideas.

ShadowMage93 -

I hear you! While Hatchling spawns threadlings that inherit damage buffs from the weapon, they still feel a tad underwhelming compared to other perks. Sure, they have decent base damage—like 45% of what an ignition would do—but the tracking is awful. Even with decent builds, those threadlings often miss their targets, which really kills their effectiveness in a fight.

GunSlingerX -

Exactly! If they could just improve their tracking, it would make a massive difference.

SkywalkerFan24 -

Totally agree, it’s frustrating when they head towards already dead enemies!

I’m all for buffing Hatchling, but I think we could be more aggressive with how it works. What if we allowed any kill to generate threadlings, and precision kills could yield multiple? It feels like the perk is just too weak compared to others. Making it scale based on enemy type would help give it the edge it needs to be competitive with options like Voltshot.

That could work, and if they last longer or get stronger with kills, even better!

MysticShaman12 -

Totally! Adding like a layer of mechanics could make it really fun to use.
