I recently got a Quest 3 headset and my girlfriend enjoys watching me play VR games. However, she prefers to watch the gameplay on the TV instead of the PC monitor. I’m currently playing PC VR games through the Link cable connected to my PC. I also have a Steam Deck docked to our TV. Is it possible to use the Steam Deck to stream my VR gameplay to the TV, so she can watch the game there while I play? The TV is not a smart TV, more like an older 1080p monitor.

You can’t directly stream the Quest VR gameplay to a non-smart TV since it lacks native casting ability. But since you have the Steam Deck docked to the TV, you might be able to use Steam Remote Play or another streaming setup to mirror your PC’s VR output to the Steam Deck, which would then show on the TV. It might take some tweaking to get the latency and quality right, though.
Another option is to use the Quest’s built-in casting feature and stream directly to devices that support it, like smart TVs or Chromecast. Since your TV is older and not smart, you could consider getting a Chromecast or similar casting device plugged into your TV’s HDMI port. Then you can cast the VR view wirelessly while playing on PC via Link cable.
Good idea! I hadn’t thought about adding a Chromecast for casting. That could be an easier fix than streaming through the Steam Deck.
Thanks, that makes sense. I’ll look into Steam Remote Play to see if I can get it working smoothly over the link cable connection.
