I’ve been having a tough time managing my game settings when switching between my PC and Steam Deck. Every time I change devices, I have to adjust the graphics settings again—lowering them on the Deck for performance and increasing them on my PC for better visuals. Is there an automatic way to handle this, or a method to prevent Steam from syncing these specific settings while only syncing game saves?

One strategy I’ve adopted is playing certain games exclusively on either my Deck or PC, but never both. This keeps things simpler! Also, consider using Moonlight to stream games if that’s an option for you.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to prevent Steam from syncing settings because it’s determined by the developers. They decide what gets saved to the cloud, so if you want changes, you’ll have to reach out to the game developers directly for customization options.
Great tip! I like to switch between my ultrawide monitor and the Deck, so streaming isn’t always the best fit for me. Wish there was a better option for controlling sync preferences!
Have you considered streaming your games from your PC to the Deck? If you have a strong Ethernet connection and a WiFi6 router, this can work great. You can run games at higher graphics on your PC and then stream them—I’ve been playing games like Death Stranding at 4K60, and it’s pretty amazing on the Deck!
Yeah, streaming is awesome for big titles! For smaller games, though, I still play directly on the Deck to avoid syncing hassles.
Same here! I usually prefer playing locally on my Deck. It just feels better for handheld gaming, especially when I’m switching between my desk and the couch.
