I need to create some tutorial videos for my lab work, but I’m stuck. My professor asked me to show some techniques I’ve used on our workstation, and while I initially thought of using OBS, I can’t install it because I need admin access. I tried the Windows Game Bar, but it’s super limited—it only records specific apps and stops if I switch windows, which I need to do for the videos. Is there any way I can record my entire desktop without going through IT for approval?

If you have a GPU from AMD or Nvidia, check out their built-in recording features. AMD’s ReLive and Nvidia’s ShadowPlay can usually handle full desktop recording without issues. Might be worth a try!
Definitely try recording on Zoom if you haven’t! Just start a meeting and share your screen. You can record that way, and it captures everything you need.
The Windows Snipping Tool can capture screens, but I think it’s just for screenshots, not for video. Not super useful if you’re looking for a recording.
Yeah, I need a video, not a still image. Thanks for clarifying!
You could just shoot a request to IT. It’s not that hard and they might get back to you. But if you’re short on time, that won’t work. Maybe try using the Zoom app to record? It’s a solid workaround and should do the job.
That’s a clever idea! I might give that a shot.
I like that option! It sounds like it might just save me.
