Hey everyone! So my friends and I are trying to figure out how to record our Xbox voice chat during games, like Fortnite. Currently, when I’m talking to my group, I can hear everyone through the TV speakers unless I plug in my headset, but then I only get game sounds and music, not our voices. Is there a way to change this? Also, is there a good method to record our chats along with gameplay? I have an Xbox Series S. Thanks!

You should definitely consider getting a capture card. It’s the best way to ensure you can record both your gameplay and voice chat without any hiccups. Just make sure to look for one that supports the resolution you want to record in!
For recording your voice chat, you can also stream to Twitch for free! It records both game and voice and then you can save the streams. If you’re looking for something more dedicated, I’d recommend a decent capture card. They come in all price ranges, like the one I got from TikTok Shop, and they work fine with OBS Studio.
I had a similar issue! You can try changing some settings in your console. Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Volume and Audio Output.’ Make sure to disable sound from speakers when your headset is plugged in, and check the chat mixer options to set it up correctly. It might help you hear everyone!
Make sure your external drive is set up properly for recordings. Sometimes, slow USB drives cause problems. I have a 1TB 3.0 SSD that worked well after plugging it into a card reader first. Just keep in mind that if you’re using HDR, it can look choppy sometimes.
That’s a good tip about the card reader! Also, if your drive is formatted correctly and still causing issues, just restart the Xbox to reset it, and it usually clears up problems.
Nice, I’ll check that out! I didn’t know Twitch could record like that. What capture card do you use?
