I’m currently using an RTX 2060 Super and I’m really eager to upgrade to the RX 9070 XT, but I’m struggling to see how I can make this work financially. I’ve got about $135 saved up, and I’m planning to sell my current GPU for another $200. However, I also need a new power supply since my current one, a Cooler Master Elite V3 600w, isn’t enough for the new graphics card. I’m looking at getting the MSI MPG A1000G PCIE 5, which is around $150. Does anyone have tips on how I could convince my parents to help out with the costs or ways to offset the price?

Honestly, a lot of us in the gaming community buy our own gear with our own savings. If your parents see how committed you are, they might be more inclined to help. Maybe show them your savings plan and explain how much you’re contributing. It could help to ask them not just for the GPU but to make a deal where they cover part of it if you cover other expenses, like helping out around the house or with chores.
You could also bring up how big of a leap in performance you’ll get. Sometimes, parents just need to understand why it’s worth it.
You might want to consider your CPU too; if it’s bottlenecking the new GPU, it could be a tough sell for them. Maybe suggest upgrading the CPU down the line, but prioritize getting them to see how much you’ll still benefit from the new card. Ask for the GPU as a gift and say you’ll save up for the PSU and CPU later. That’s a solid way to balance things out!
I know my CPU isn’t the best, but I’ll still get a good boost in performance. I’ll work on that CPU upgrade later.
You can always keep the communication open. Let them know you’re responsible about planning your upgrades!
Good point! I’ll definitely show them my plan and how much I’m putting in.
