Hey everyone! I’ve been trying out Linux for a few weeks now and I’m really enjoying the experience, especially with games like Dark Souls Remastered. But I’ve run into a bit of a snag with Cyberpunk 2077. I’m playing it on my RTX 4060 Ti at 1080p with Ultra settings, Ray Tracing on, and DLSS 3 Frame Generation. However, the performance is noticeably worse compared to when I played it on Windows, dropping below 60 FPS with Ray Tracing enabled. When I turn it off, the game runs much smoother. Are there any tweaks or parameters I can use to boost Ray Tracing performance on Linux? Thanks for your help!

Consider tweaking the command line for Steam. You could try adding settings like __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 and __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%. This is mentioned in the Arch Wiki and might help a bit, but results can vary.
Honestly, have you found any game that actually looks better with RT enabled? I’m curious to know if it’s worth it or if it just causes more graphical issues.
Cyberpunk 2077 looked amazing on Windows! I loved the visual experience there.
I felt the same way about Elden Ring; the graphics improve significantly! It’s a shame Linux doesn’t have the same support.
RT performance on Linux is generally subpar across the board for both AMD and Nvidia cards. Now that RDNA3 is out, AMD’s still trying to catch up. I think the next step for both manufacturers will be improving this on Linux, but it’s not great right now.
So you’re saying my best bet for RT might actually be Intel? That’s unexpected!
From my experience, Ray Tracing (RT) on Linux is pretty rough, even with high-end GPUs like the 4090. Performance tends to tank compared to Windows. Unfortunately, not much can be done to improve it significantly right now. You might just have to tweak your settings or stick to having RT off for a smoother gameplay experience.
I get that! It seems like RT really struggles under Linux, no matter the GPU. Have you tried adjusting other in-game settings?
Thanks for sharing that! I’ll give it a shot, but I think my game runs on Vulkan, so not sure how much it’ll help.
