I’m diving back into the Resident Evil series to gear up for Resident Evil 9, but I’m really struggling with the original titles. I recently attempted to play Resident Evil 3 on the PS1, which I found enjoyable, but I kept dying and running out of resources. It got so frustrating that I switched to the Resident Evil 3 remake, but I can see how the PS1 version has better design and a stronger opening. I’ve tried playing RE1 multiple times, but it goes even worse! I’ve read guides and searched for tips, yet I still find myself stuck after a few hours. Is this a skill issue? What am I missing? I really want to beat these games, and any tips for the first three would help since I plan on jumping back to RE1 after finishing the remake.

RE3 is definitely the hardest of the original trilogy when it comes to ammo management. The good thing is that you can identify dead zombies by the blood pool underneath them, which can help you decide if you need to engage. Don’t forget about the magnum for taking down Nemesis quickly; it really comes in handy!
One of the best strategies is to remember that you don’t have to take down every enemy. Sometimes, just taking a hit from a zombie can give you enough space to get through a crowded area without using up too much health or ammo. Regularly saving your game and using multiple save files is also key, so you don’t lose progress. Just enjoy the experience of exploring the game and figuring it all out; we all struggled the first time through!
It’s true that RE3 is tougher, but RE1 isn’t as hard as it seems! The version you’re playing can make a difference, especially the PS1 non-Director’s Cut, which is a bit more challenging. Also, you might want to make good use of the quick turn mechanic in RE3 to dodge zombies effectively, and remember to keep your shots straight with the handgun for better accuracy!
Don’t sweat it too much, OG RE3 is tough, but totally worth it. You might want to start on easy mode to familiarize yourself with the mechanics. The remake can be fun but once you play the original, you’ll understand just how different the experience is!
Realizing that you don’t have to kill everything really changed the game for me! Focus on surviving and figuring out the puzzle aspects rather than just combat all the time. It opens up a lot of options!
Mastering movement is key! Avoiding combat when you can will save you ammo. Focus on clearing areas you know you’ll revisit later, but if a fight isn’t necessary, just go around! It helps a ton!
