I’m a new Dota 2 player with about 30 games under my belt. Early on, I abandoned two matches thinking I’d just get a short matchmaking ban like in other games. I didn’t realize how the behavior score worked until I dropped to 7116 and ended up in low priority matchmaking. Since then, I haven’t left any games, I don’t chat at all, and I always commend my teammates to try to improve my score. But despite that, my score dropped further to 6950. I’m really enjoying the game and want to get better involved, but this system is frustrating me. Can anyone share some tips or advice on how to raise my behavior score?

Here’s the trick: don’t get reported at all. Your behavior score increases with every game you finish without reports, and it builds faster with longer streaks of clean games.
To fly under the radar:
– Avoid flashy or controversial heroes that can draw attention or frustration.
– Don’t be the loudest or most noticeable player; carry your weight quietly.
– Mute the enemy team to avoid distractions.
– Don’t mute your teammates; answer important questions politely to avoid irritation.
– Keep chat to essential communication only, and don’t spam voice lines or tips.
– Keep commending your teammates — it might not directly boost your score, but it helps reduce reports against you.
Of course, don’t feed or sabotage your team. It’s a grind, but staying positive most games is what boosts your score over time. Good luck!
The behavior system overall is solid. It can be tough to raise your score quickly because it’s designed to reward consistent positivity, not just short bursts of good behavior. Everyone has off days and gets tilted sometimes, but if you keep a pattern of being a positive player in nearly all your games, your score will slowly increase and stay there.
I get that it sucks when abandoning games hurts your score, especially because sometimes internet or power outages are out of your control. But if your connection isn’t reliable enough to finish matches that usually last about 40 minutes, the system kind of forces you to adapt or maybe reconsider playing this game mode. Leaving even just a few matches wastes many hours of other players’ time, so some punishment is fair. The game does give you a bit of leeway with about one free abandon per 20 games, though.
You can definitely raise it, but it gets trickier if you’re being reported not just for leaving but also for playing poorly. Usually, if you support roles with a positive attitude and frequently get commends from teammates, your behavior score can climb faster. I managed to bump mine from around 9k to 12k by focusing on that.
Honestly, at this early stage, sometimes it’s easier to just start a fresh account now that you understand how the behavior system works. It might feel rough, but knowing the system will help you avoid the same issues on your new account.
