I’m really trying to grind for the hourglass but it feels like I’m losing my sanity! I prepare a ton for matches, pumped and ready to win, but then I get steamrolled by the enemy team. To make things worse, my teammates sometimes say things like “gg sorry my teammate was trash” and I get hit with a bunch of taunts like “rolls on deck laughing” from the enemy team. How do you all manage to keep your cool while grinding this? I genuinely want to know because every time I ask, people just call me a sore loser without offering any real advice.

Nope, it doesn’t get easier. But I will say it can become a lot more enjoyable once you stop letting your sanity get in the way!
Try going solo and don’t overprepare. Just dive into fights as quickly as you can. You’re probably going to lose often anyway, so it’s better to lose fast and learn from it. This way, you’ll improve much faster!
I recently played solo on a sloop and got really lucky by teaming up with someone who had the same mindset. We ended up winning quite a few matches together! It’s all about finding your groove. Don’t overprepare; just grab supplies as needed from merchants when you start fresh. We would often focus on taking down enemy masts to win the naval fights, and surprisingly, it worked against some stronger teams!
The issue with the hourglass is it’s similar to arena problems: players claim the content is ‘dead,’ so only hardcore players are left. The matchmaking tries to pair players of similar skill, but often you just get stuck against much higher-level opponents. Waiting for events like Gold and Glory weekends can help bring in players who want to engage without feeling intimidated. You’ll find more matches your level!
You might not fully avoid going insane, but playing with a laid-back friend can help! Make sure to take breaks when needed, go touch some grass or spend time with family or pets. The grind is tough mentally, but it’s possible to ease the strain on yourself overtime. Setting unrealistic goals like reaching level 1000 can add to the stress, so don’t stress yourself out too much!
Try preparing less so you have fewer supplies to lose. Also, find teammates who won’t blame everything on you. You’re likely going to lose before you see victories, so just keep at it!
Wait, you actually open crew for hourglass matches? Wow, that’s ambitious!
Combining “grinding” with “not losing your mind” is a challenge! Good luck!
Honestly, I’d rather get steamrolled than spend ages in a match. It’s those drawn-out fights that are the worst!
I usually limit myself to four matches max, whether I win or lose. Going beyond that just leads to frustration. Playing with friends can make the grind more fun, but that’s not always an option for me!
I’m nearly halfway to a thousand and even with consistent wins, it feels like a maddening challenge!
