Hey everyone, I’m currently watching a movie on my PS3, but I’ve noticed these annoying black lines above and below the screen that weren’t there before. They really make the picture feel slim, and I’d love to know how to get rid of them. Can anyone help me out with this? Is there a way to make the movie fill the whole screen?

It sounds like you’re experiencing letterboxing, which happens when the movie’s aspect ratio doesn’t match your TV’s. Most modern films are in a wider format, like 1.85:1, while your TV probably has a 16:9 ratio. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do to remove those black bars completely without cutting off parts of the movie. You might find a zoom option on your PS3 or TV, but just be aware that it will crop the edges of the film. So, while you could fill the screen, you’d miss some of the action on the sides!

Thanks for the info! I guess I’ll just have to deal with the bars then. Who knew aspect ratios could be so complicated?
