I recently bought River City Girls on Epic Games and I’m trying to run it on Linux Mint 22.1 using Lutris. When I launch it, a window briefly pops up saying that Epic Games is verifying an update, but then it just closes and the game doesn’t start. Has anyone run into this issue before or know how to get around it? I’m not sure what’s causing the problem or how to fix it.

I’ve had better luck running Epic Games on Linux using the Heroic Games Launcher instead of Lutris. Heroic tends to handle Epic Games much more smoothly and avoids the update verification issues you’re seeing.
There have been some ongoing problems with the Epic launcher when running it through Lutris lately. Until those get patched out, I recommend trying to run your games through Bottles instead, which tends to be more stable with Epic launcher games.
I had the same issue and fixed it by installing the Epic Games launcher in a new Wine prefix and then copying my existing game files over to the new setup. You might also try reinstalling the Epic launcher itself, but keep in mind that might delete your installed games, so back them up if you do that.
Honestly, I only use Lutris for launchers that don’t have native Linux support, like the EA app. For Epic Games, both Steam and Heroic launchers are usually better options. Lutris can be a bit unreliable at times, especially with login sessions and launcher updates.
Thanks, I’ll check out Bottles and see if that works better for me.
