I’m at the siege of Nebakov in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and it starts automatically after I sleep. Unfortunately, I wasn’t prepared and didn’t equip Henry with his helmet or bow beforehand. Now, I’m trying to equip them, but it won’t let me because it says I’m in combat, even though there aren’t any enemies nearby at the moment. The game also prompts me for dialogue during this time, which makes it confusing. Is there some sort of bug causing this, or does the game simply prevent you from equipping items as long as there’s combat happening nearby, even if it doesn’t involve Henry? It feels a bit unfair to spring a battle on me without warning and not allow me to prepare. I’m just glad I didn’t change into a tunic or I’d really be in trouble!

This issue comes up multiple times in the game. I’ve been thrown into full battles unprepared too. It’s super frustrating, especially when you have time to gear up but the game doesn’t give you that option. Reloading your save would be the best way to handle it until they patch this.
Honestly, my best advice is to just reload an earlier save before the siege started. It’s a pain, but it’s probably the easiest fix right now. Sorry, I don’t have a better solution!
From my experience, you don’t actually have to do much during the siege itself. In my playthrough, I just focused on backstabbing enemies during the melee sections, while others were fighting. You might find it’s not as intense as it seems!
You can change or equip weapons during combat but not armor. The game leans toward realism, so it makes sense you can’t quickly change clothes in the middle of a fight. But the autosave just before sleep gives you a perfect opportunity to load that up!
You can actually wait for breaks in the siege—there are moments when you’re not in full combat and can equip your stuff. Keep an eye out for those.
Wait, you took off your armor right before going to bed in the middle of a siege? That’s a risky move! 😂 But seriously, if you remove the helmet for dialogue, it makes sense that you’d forget. I get it. It’s pretty lame if there’s no way to prepare at all, though.
Hey, not like I was in combat at that moment! I only took it off because the helmet covers Henry’s face and ruins the dialogue scenes. It’s definitely more for future play-throughs.
Eh, that’s pretty frustrating. I feel like you should at least be able to gear up when preparing for a fight. Thanks anyway!
