I recently completed Ultra Sun for the first time using an emulator and I’m now exploring the postgame, specifically the Rocket castle. I started on the left side and ran into Archie, who wiped out my whole team with his Kyogre. My team consists of Latios, Necrozma, Alolan Muk, Type: Null, Alolan Ninetales, and Blacephalon. I initially brought Alolan Ninetales to handle his Sharpedo and Mightyena, which it takes down easily. However, it gets taken out by Sharpedo’s Liquidation and can’t survive a Sludge Bomb from Crobat before I can use Extrasensory. When I try switching to Latios, Type: Null, or Necrozma, Crobat’s Toxic stalling really hinders me for the Kyogre fight. Alolan Muk has solid Special Defense and is the only one who can withstand a Water Spout, hitting Kyogre back hard before falling. Blacephalon is there to outspeed and apply some pressure with Shadow Claw due to Kyogre’s low Defense. I managed to get Kyogre down to 25% health but haven’t won yet. I’m looking for any strategies or tips to take him down!

Since Kyogre creates rain when it enters the battle, bringing an Electric-type special attacker with Thunder will work great, as its accuracy increases in rain. Try to either outspeed or use a Focus Sash to survive the hit.
Using an Electric-type is the way I beat it; my Pokémon were around level 90 though when I tackled the fight.
If you’re finding Toxic troublesome, consider incorporating a Steel-type Pokémon to counter it. They can absorb Toxic and give you more options in battle.
Consider using Mimikyu with Curse as it can be a game-changer. It’s an egg move you can get from Gastly if you’re interested.
I didn’t add Mimikyu because I have type overlap with Decidueye and Ninetales. Plus, I’m pretty new to breeding!
In my experience, Kyogre isn’t that fast. Use Thunderbolt on Latios to deal significant damage while teaching Alolan Ninetales Light Screen to mitigate damage from Kyogre. After defeating Sharpedo and Mightyena, you can set up Light Screen with A-Ninetales, which will help Muk finish Kyogre off safely since its Water Spout will be weakened.
The goal is to bring Kyogre’s HP to zero without letting yours drop! Remember, Water Spout’s damage is affected by Kyogre’s max HP, so using Light Screen and other defensive strategies can help.
Thanks a ton! Before your reply, I was just healing my Pokémon instead of focusing on bringing down Kyogre!
One effective strategy is to set up screens first, then hit Kyogre with Toxic and use Protect to stall. This can help you manage its damage output while chipping it down over time.
Good point, I totally forgot that Muk can learn Toxic! Thanks for the tip!
I didn’t use any Steel-types in my playthrough, and I’m not sure if there’s one around that matches the battle’s level cap.
