Hey everyone! I come from an Asian family where my parents are concerned about gaming and screen time. I’m currently using this really old Alienware laptop that keeps giving me issues, like the white screen of doom saying ‘Hard drive not installed.’ My dad managed to persuade my mom to let me get a Mac for school, which is great, but I really want to build my own PC with my own money. I’m in 7th grade and while my parents think it’s not worth it since they say I’d only use it for a few years, I feel like all my friends are getting their own gaming setups. I’ve tried to convince them before, but it didn’t work. How can I make a solid case to convince them this time around? Any advice would be appreciated!

You might consider asking for a pre-built PC instead of building one yourself. Your parents might be worried about you building it and not trusting the process. Also, make sure to show them your good grades and responsible behavior! Before you know it, they might come around when they see you’re so mature about it.
You could try telling your parents that a PC would help with schoolwork and other interests. Mention how it can lead you towards computer science or digital art, which Asian parents usually appreciate. If they understand the educational value, they might be more open to the idea!
I’ve been doing well in school, but they just have this fear about gaming. I’ll definitely keep that in mind!
