Hey everyone, I’m a casual player struggling to reach 750 aether in a single horde run on Journey. My best so far is 658, and I keep failing to hit 750. Is there a strategy or build that can help boost aether drops? Any tips on what upgrades to prioritize or how to approach the waves would be much appreciated!

I’ve had great results following the tier list for boon picks—stick to those that boost hellborne and elite spawns, and skip out on boons like Masses, Spires, or Lords since they don’t drop as much aether. It’s a bit RNG on what you get offered, but prioritizing the right upgrades makes a big difference. Also, speedy wave clears with builds that can pull and kill groups fast (like some pull mechanics to gather enemies) definitely help rack up those aether numbers.
Playing in a group of 4 definitely makes hitting 750+ aether much easier. You kill faster, which means more enemy waves and event spawns get triggered, leading to more aether drops. Just make sure everyone selects boons that enhance hellborne waves and aether, and avoid upgrades that slow down clears or don’t give much aether. If no group is available, a fast-clear solo build focusing on hellborne will still work but might take more tries.
The key is running 10-wave horde runs with a clear focus on priority upgrades. You want to grab hellborne-related upgrades early because they boost how much aether you get and increase enemy spawns. Also, look for faster event spawn upgrades and anything that specifically boosts aether drops. Using wide AOE builds like Cataclysm or Earthquake is a huge help for clearing waves quickly and making room for more events within the timer.
I play a Rain of Arrows rogue too and had similar trouble. I think build choice really affects your success here—fast killing ability and selecting upgrades that consistently reward aether are key. Some runs just don’t work out if you don’t get strong hellborne or event bonuses though, so patience is part of it too. Joining players who know what to pick can also help if you’re struggling solo.
Honestly, luck plays a decent role here. Sometimes you just get tons of hellborne upgrades and events that stack aether fast, other times not so much. I had one run solo where everything aligned and I cleared 1150+ aether! Don’t sweat a few failed attempts. Just keep aiming for clears with consistent aether-boosting upgrades and fast enemy kills, and you’ll get there pretty quickly.
