Hey everyone! I’m trying to connect my original Sega Genesis (using the classic 6-pin plug) to my new TCL TV, but I’m running into some trouble. I previously had the Genesis hooked up to a Samsung LCD TV with a retro AV to HDMI converter, and it worked perfectly. However, with this new TCL TV, it refuses to work with the same converter setup. I’ve already tried different cables and even bought another Genesis just in case there was a hardware issue. I’ve noticed that the TCL has a 3.5mm jack for older AV equipment, so I mistakenly grabbed an RCA to 3.5mm cable, only to find out I can’t connect the RCAs from the Genesis. Does anyone have suggestions for getting the Genesis AV out into a format I can use with the TCL? Thanks a lot!

For around $30, you can grab one of these Kaico adapters, which are great for a model 1 Genesis. It’s like the RAD2X, but just cheaper and with a slightly different design. Keep in mind, it can be a bit hit or miss with a model 2 Genesis, though!
You might want to consider the Retrotink 4K, though it’s on the pricier side. I get that you’re looking for something cheaper. If you don’t want to spend big bucks, you might want to try a simpler solution that avoids HDMI conversion altogether.
Totally understand where you’re coming from. I usually try to keep costs down too. A cheaper option could be looking for an AV to 3.5mm adapter that doesn’t involve HDMI converters.
Thanks for the heads up! But I should mention, my TCL TV doesn’t seem to play nice with HDMI converters. I’m having better luck with older tech!
