Hey everyone! I’m looking for some creative ideas to blend two games I really enjoy: OpenQuest and Magic World. I appreciate OpenQuest for its Mythras-like core system, but I’m not a fan of its magic system and the lack of professions. On the flip side, Magic World has an awesome magic system, rich cultural backgrounds, and professions I love, but I’m not keen on its characteristic roles or the numerous variations of critical success. Has anyone here crafted a functional homebrew combination of both games? I’d also be thrilled to hear about mixing in elements from Mythras Classic Fantasy. Just to clarify, I’m not interested in playing DnD 5e, although I do enjoy that style of gameplay!

Have you considered using Mythras Classic Fantasy as a baseline? It’s a solid system, but I get that it’s not for everyone due to its complexity. Still, there might be parts of it that could complement your mix nicely!
I haven’t played OpenQuest or Magic World, but I know they’re both rooted in Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying (BRP). You could potentially take the best features from both games and mesh them using BRP, which allows for flexible modifications. If you’re new to BRP, you can grab the free document from Chaosium—it’s a great resource!
I’ve been experimenting with BRP for a while, but I still haven’t quite figured out how to make it work the way I want.
Hey there, my BOL buddy! I totally agree, but it might be too rules-heavy for my group. Finding that sweet spot can be tricky!
