Hey everyone, I’ve been trying to play ranked since 2023 but never really focused on it until recently. I’ve got some free time now and want to take ranked seriously, but I keep struggling to win. Out of 40 games, I’ve lost 24. I play mostly top lane champions like Jax and Yorick. Although I don’t necessarily dominate lane, I can scale well with them and perform solidly mid to late game, especially after finishing Trinity Force. Both have about a 60% win rate for me. The frustrating part is I just can’t climb out of Iron, fluctuating between Iron III and Iron IV. When I start winning a few games in a row, someone trolls and the match snowballs against me, dropping me back to 0 LP. I want tips on improving top lane play and climbing rank. Also playing on the Brazilian server if that matters!

Try picking a single focus for each game to improve — it could be something small like improving your farming, better wave management, or just practicing staying safe and avoiding ganks. Don’t overload yourself trying to get better at everything at once. Also, since you play split push champs, work on creating pressure by sticking to the side lanes and not joining every teamfight unnecessarily. Learning to maximize pressure and knowing when to join fights or back off is huge in climbing out of Iron.
Honestly, any solo lane can carry games if you play well. You might also want to try other roles like jungle or ADC to see if you get better carry potential there. But since you like top, learning how to snowball leads and applying map pressure consistently is super important. Just keep practicing and focus on fundamentals like farming and positioning. You’ll climb with patience!
At your current rank, I’d say focusing on winning your lane is key. You want to aim to win lane around 80% of the time. That means not just surviving, but actually getting edges in trades, farming well, and pushing your advantage when you have it. Since the mid game can get messy in Iron, you can’t rely on your team too much, so the more you can carry from top lane, the better. Try to learn how to hold onto leads and expand your pressure across the map when you have an advantage.
A good idea is to watch high-level players who main champions like Jax. Find someone in Gold or higher who plays Jax and watch their games to see what they do differently than you. Pay attention to their positioning, when and how they trade, how they farm, and how they make decisions in lane and during teamfights. Then when you improve and reach Gold, do the same for Emerald-level players to keep leveling up your game.
