I recently completed the main story of Pokémon Ultra Sun (using an emulator) and now I’m tackling the postgame, specifically the Rocket castle. I ran into Archie and his Kyogre wiped out my whole team, which includes Latios, Necrozma, Alolan Muk, Type: Null, Alolan Ninetales, and Blacephalon. I initially used Alolan Ninetales to handle his Sharpedo and Mightyena, but it got hit hard by Sharpedo’s Liquidation and then taken out by Crobat’s Sludge Bomb before I could use Extrasensory. If I try using Latios, Type: Null, or Necrozma, they often get stalled by Crobat, making them weak for the Kyogre fight. My Muk has solid special defense and can survive a Water Spout but doesn’t last long enough to finish Kyogre. I managed to bring Kyogre’s health down to about 25% but couldn’t seal the deal. Any strategies or tips would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to set up some screens to boost your team’s defenses. Using Toxic with Muk can also help, plus consider Protect or Dig to stall a bit while you chip away at Kyogre’s health.
Since Kyogre brings rain when it enters, an electric-type special attacker like Tapu Koko could really help. Thunder hits 100% in the rain. Just make sure you either outspeed or have a Focus Sash since it’ll be tricky otherwise.
I used my Focus Sash against Ultra Necrozma… Ugh! Tapu Koko is my only option, but I’m worried about it getting outsped.
I beat it with a straight-up electric-type strategy! But my team was way higher level than yours when I faced it.
Kyogre isn’t super fast, and its Water Spout depends on its health. Teaching Latios Thunderbolt could help, plus having A-Ninetales set up Light Screen before it goes down can really mitigate damage. Then use Latios to get rid of Sharpedo so A-Ninetales can handle Mightyena.
Mimikyu backed up with Curse works wonders, it’s an egg move from Gastly.
Mimikyu wasn’t on my team because of type overlap with Decidueye and Ninetales. Plus, I’m pretty new to breeding…
Here’s a pro tip: make sure Kyogre’s HP hits zero while keeping yours above zero! It really works wonders against tough battles.
Haha, such great advice! I was worried more about healing my own Pokémon instead of focusing on taking Kyogre down.
If Toxic becomes a problem, you might consider a Steel-type Pokémon to counter it. I’m not too sure if there are any viable ones at your level though.
I didn’t use a Steel-type in my playthrough, so I’m not sure if I even have access to one at this point.
Good point! I totally overlooked Muk’s Toxic potential, thanks for the suggestion!
