I’ve noticed that 8.4% of players earn the Master-Wizard achievement, while 8.5% jump right to Arch-Mage. How can that be? Is the 0.1% actually managing to skip over Master-Wizard entirely? What’s going on with that?

It’s actually kind of interesting! You can advance in the Mages Guild questline without specifically asking Raminus for a promotion, which lets you skip the Master-Wizard rank entirely and go straight to Arch-Mage.
Honestly, it’s pretty easy to overlook the Master-Wizard promotion, especially since Raminus doesn’t really remind you to ask about it after a while. I missed it in my first playthrough, but luckily I saved before that point!
Haha, I guess I’m part of that 0.1%! I didn’t even realize skipping Master-Wizard was a thing until now. It seems like you have to be careful with when you ask for promotions or you might miss them!
Definitely! If you don’t ask Raminus for that Master-Wizard promotion at the right point, the quest will keep going but you’ll miss that rank and jump to Arch-Mage. Makes sense if you think about how quest progression works.
Yeah, I did the same! I had no clue I could skip it until I checked my achievements later.
Same here! I learned the hard way during my last playthrough. Always check back with Raminus!
