Hey everyone! I’m having some serious throttling problems with my Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 gaming laptop (specs: Geforce RTX 4070, Intel i9, 32GB RAM). I’ve owned it for just over a year, and while it performed well at first, it has become incredibly laggy recently, even on low-intensity games like Genshin Impact. I noticed my CPU temperature hitting around 96°C during gaming sessions, which led me to seek some tech advice. After cleaning the laptop, I repasted the CPU with liquid metal following the recommendation to push it toward the middle. However, I only saw a slight temperature drop of 1-2°C after trying to play again. Monitoring with HWinfo shows that my CPU has been throttled about 70% of the time during a one-hour gaming session, with an average temperature of 87°C. I’m not sure what steps to take next since I’m no tech expert, and even repasting was a bit of a challenge for me. Lowering the graphics hasn’t helped either. I can still play some games like TFT without issues, but those don’t seem to stress the CPU much. Any advice would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Is your laptop air cooled or liquid cooled? It’s important to know because cooling methods can greatly affect performance. If it’s air cooled, maybe it’s struggling to dissipate heat properly. That could be why you’re hitting those high temps.
Doubt a laptop will be water cooled, at least actively.
Have you checked for any dust buildup? That can severely impact airflow and cooling performance. Make sure the fans are running well too. They play a huge role in keeping temperatures down while gaming.
Yeah, I cleaned it out and the fans seem to be running fine as far as I can tell.
It is air cooled, just checked.
