I’m having some trouble with Steam not launching properly for days now. I’ve tried reinstalling it completely, but it still acts up. For instance, it wouldn’t start this morning, but then worked later tonight. None of my games are running, and I’m also behind on Windows updates. The PC health check app informs me that I don’t have secure boot or TPM enabled, which seems to block me from installing updates. I don’t have TPM 2.0 either. What steps should I take? Should I consider switching to Linux? I’ve installed Mint on a USB drive but haven’t tested it yet. How is the transition to Linux for someone like me? Luckily, my editing software, Resolve, is compatible. I built this system back in 2020.

I think your hardware may not meet Windows 11 requirements, especially with TPM issues. Since you’re comfortable with tech, you should boot from that USB and give Linux a try! It’s often a smooth experience if your hardware is supported. Just ensure you back up your C: drive, and I’d suggest avoiding dual booting. Steam runs pretty well on Linux, and you can play most Windows games without too much hassle.
Switching to Linux can be a great option! Most major games run just fine on it, but keep in mind that some multiplayer games don’t allow Linux players. You might need to learn to troubleshoot a few things, so be prepared for that. For compatibility details, check out ProtonDB to see how your favorite games run on Linux.
If you’re considering Linux, Mint is a solid choice! It’s user-friendly, especially for newcomers. Just keep your expectations in check, and be ready to learn a bit as you adjust to a new system. Your hardware looks fine for Mint, just see how it handles when you boot from the USB.
