Hey everyone! I just got my first console ever, the Xbox Series X, and I’m super excited! I also picked up around 70 classic titles, mostly from around 2010, that I’ve always wanted to play but couldn’t afford back in the day. Unfortunately, I found out that many of these games aren’t supported by the backward compatibility program, which is a real bummer. I’m wondering what my options are for playing these old games without having to sell my Series X or buy an older console. Any suggestions?

Honestly, selling your Series X might not be the best move. Xbox 360 consoles are pretty cheap these days; I’ve seen them go for around $60 on marketplaces. If you can afford a Series X and a bunch of games, you can probably swing a 360 too. Just a heads up though, not all games are backward compatible since they’ve wrapped up their backward compatibility program already—so your options to play those specific titles are limited unless you get a 360.
You might want to think about just getting a 360 for those unsupported titles. Most Xbox One games are compatible with Series X, so you would be covered there. Plus, you can still enjoy some of those vintage gems that aren’t backwards compatible. Just check if your old 360 games are available at a fair price; it’ll be worth it!
Definitely keep your Series X! For the games that aren’t backward compatible, you could get a 360 to play your old favorites. You also have the option to look into remasters for some of those games; many are often on sale! Plus, if you’re into emulation, you could set up Dev Mode on your Series X as a last resort to run some emulators. The emulation scene has some fun options out there if you’re comfortable with it.
Emulating is a great way to access a bunch of titles if you know what you’re doing. Just make sure to read up on it!
Don’t give up on your Series X! It plays a ton of titles really well, and you’ll get better performance on the games that *are* compatible than you would with older hardware. If you’re not down to buy a 360, just focus on the library that works with your Series X. But I’d still consider snagging a 360 for all the classic titles since they’re pretty affordable right now.
If you want to play those non-compatible games, unfortunately, you’re going to need a 360. Otherwise, it might be best to enjoy what you can on your Series X and leave those games in the past for now. It’s a shame, but at least your new console can handle plenty of other great titles!
Yeah, I got a 360 for about $40 with a few games included. Best decision ever, it lets me play all the classics!
