My Steam Deck was mid-download when I encountered a “Disk write error.” I switched to desktop mode to try fixing it, but now it won’t boot at all! The fans are running and the trackpads vibrate when I touch them, but that’s it. I’ve tried everything from entering the BIOS to battery storage mode, and nothing seems to work. I’m really in need of assistance, so if anyone has suggestions, please share!

Hey, I see you’re using the OLED 512GB version. It’s good to know you haven’t swapped out the SSD! I get it—nobody wants to lose their game data. Unfortunately, if it’s showing a black screen after that power reset, recovery might be tough. Just keep in mind that if you end up needing to reformat, backing up your data first (if possible) is super important.
Which model of the Steam Deck do you have? Did you change the SSD, or are you using the OEM one that it came with? A good first step is to try holding the power button for 10 seconds, then press it again to see if it kicks back to life. If that doesn’t work, you might end up needing to consider reformatting SteamOS. You can find instructions on that in the Steam support section.
