I’m playing Minecraft on version 1.20.1 using Forge 47.4.0 through Prism Launcher. With Vsync turned off, I get about 120 fps, but I experience heavy frame drops into the 40s when moving around. When Vsync is on, it stabilizes around 60 fps, but I still face those annoying dips into the 40s. I don’t necessarily need super high frames; 60 fps is perfectly fine for me. I’m looking for advice on how to eliminate these frame dips while also wanting to use shaders. I’ve heard about Sodium but know that it’s only for Fabric, which might not support all my favorite mods. I’m considering using OptiFine for graphics options and Iris for shaders, but I’m a bit confused about how to get everything set up properly. What settings should I change, and what programs do I need to make this work? Currently, everything is set to default settings.

It sounds like you’re experiencing common FPS drops from chunk loading. If that’s the case, it could be normal behavior. Just keep an eye on when the dips occur and see if they align with chunks loading in the game.
To improve your visuals and get shaders running without the FPS issues, try using Rubidium, which is compatible with Forge and acts like Sodium. Pair it with Oculus for shaders since Optifine doesn’t work with Rubidium. Just a heads up, you might need to install a dependency called Embedium for Oculus to function properly without crashes. Good luck!
Thanks for the heads up! I ran into that issue too, having both installed caused my game to crash. Any shader suggestions? I’m currently on Bliss but facing a brightness glitch when night falls.
