Hey everyone! I’ve been dealing with my Xbox Series S overheating and shutting down unexpectedly. I tried cleaning it out completely, and although there wasn’t much dust, it did help for a day or two. Now, it’s back to shutting down. I’ve checked everything, and the fan seems to be working fine. I live in a basement and thought maybe it wasn’t getting enough airflow since it’s pretty chilly down there. I’ve seen mixed advice about using external fans or leaving the case off, but I’m desperate for a solution. Any recommendations before I consider upgrading to a Series X?

It sounds frustrating! First off, what games are causing the shutdowns? Sometimes it’s just certain games that can push the system too hard. Also, if you haven’t yet, consider reapplying thermal paste—it can make a big difference in cooling. I found this video that walks you through the steps: [Video Link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN_uQR0MRF0). Just be careful, as it can void your warranty! If that doesn’t seem to help, it might be worth sending it in for repairs.
Have you tried repositioning your Xbox? Even with space around it, having it on a dresser could restrict airflow. Try placing it on a hard, flat surface in a cooler area of the room. That might help with overheating. Also, removing the case isn’t the best idea in terms of dust buildup and temps, but maybe consider some kind of cooling stand or pedestal if you go that route.
If your fan is working but the system still shuts down, you might also want to check if there are any software updates available. Sometimes overheating issues can be due to software bugs that are fixed in later updates. Go to your settings and see if there’s anything pending!

Yeah, I had problems with my Series X too. It crashed during highly intensive games like Call of Duty: Cold War but was fine with others. Definitely check if it’s just game-specific issues.
