I recently installed a new Samsung 990 2TB SSD in my PC and followed the steps in the BIOS. However, when I booted up, it showed an error with my PIN and prompted me to reset it. The problem is that the email linked to the Windows account that it now displays is not mine—it’s missing some numbers at the end. None of the recovery options are working, and I can’t find any solutions online. I’m feeling pretty panicked and could really use some advice, especially since I have to head to work soon. Thanks!

Sounds like you might be dealing with an SSD that came with an installed Windows setup. If it was marketed as “new,” you should talk to the retailer about it. For now, plug in your old drive to boot back into your original Windows account. If you want to keep the new SSD, change the boot order in the BIOS and then wipe the new SSD from your old setup.
Good call on getting in touch with the store. They might not be aware it was refurbished!
It sounds like that “new” SSD might not be so new after all. It seems like it may have had another person’s Windows installation on it. I’d recommend using a Windows boot USB if you have one to format the new SSD. This way, you won’t accidentally boot up any weird stuff that might be on there. Also, check the BIOS settings to ensure it’s booting from your original drive.
Definitely check those BIOS settings! If it came pre-installed, you might encounter a lot of unnecessary issues. If nothing works, a full reinstall of Windows might be the way to go.
Yeah, I made the mistake of not checking when I bought an SSD online. Just make sure to verify your hardware before diving in.
Another option is to put your old drive back in, connect the new SSD using a USB adapter, then clear the partitions and format it that way. That should give you a clean slate to work from.
I’ll definitely try that! Thanks for the tips!
