I recently switched to a new WiFi network and opened my Xbox Series X while it was still offline. I didn’t realize it was offline and launched Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) as usual. Unfortunately, it reverted to a save that was six months old. After connecting to the new WiFi, I reopened RDR2, but I was still stuck with that old save, and all my recent manual saves seem to be gone. Is there any way to recover my lost saves? This is really frustrating since I’ve logged tons of hours since that old save—what happened?

Microsoft does provide cloud saves, but it sounds like you didn’t get that sync option when you returned online. If you were online before and only played for a few minutes offline, typically it should allow you to choose which save to keep—cloud or local. If you’re sure you didn’t play much offline, it’s frustrating that there was no prompt for you.
When you opened RDR2 while offline, it probably didn’t back up your latest saves to the cloud. When you connected to WiFi later and reopened the game, it didn’t prompt you to choose between your old local save and the newer cloud version. Unfortunately, if you didn’t get that prompt, it’s likely that your saves were overridden without a chance to recover them.
It’s strange that you didn’t get any option after going online again. That’s usually how it works. If you played offline for a long time without any sync, the game thinks that you prefer the local save. Unfortunately, once that overwrite happens, there’s no going back.
You might’ve missed your chance to recover the saves by connecting to WiFi. The game usually asks whether you want to load from cloud or console when you do that. If you chose local and didn’t notice any other options, it’s tough luck because manual saves are one-time only unless saved again.
