Hey everyone! I found myself in a bit of a pickle. After having to remap my Steam directory (it’s a long story), I opened up Fallout 76 and saw that all my preferences had reset. The key mapping for the ping feature is completely missing from the controls settings — it doesn’t show up at all! I tried resetting the controls to their defaults, but that didn’t do the trick either. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks in advance for your help!

I had the same problem! I submitted a ticket to Beth and I’m hoping they’ll sort it out. Meanwhile, I found a suggestion online to check the Fallout76Prefs.ini file for a line that says bReticleCombatMarkersEnabled=1 under [Controls]. Also, check Fallout76Custom.ini for the [Controls] section and look for fHighlightKey=20, which should correspond to the T key for ping. Give that a shot!
I tried the ChatGPT route too, but it didn’t help me either. Beth suggested deleting both Fallout76.ini and Fallout76Prefs.ini, but that didn’t work for me. I think the ControlMap_custom.txt file could be messing things up since it keeps being created despite using the default settings. I sent that file to Beth for them to investigate. Fingers crossed!
I got a response from Beth saying they are escalating my ticket to a specialized team for a better fix. Not sure how long it’ll take, but at least it’s in the works. Let’s hope they find a solution for all of us facing this issue!
Thanks for keeping us posted! I’m really hoping they can sort this out quickly.
