I’m really at my wit’s end trying to fix my PC’s stuttering issues in every game I’ve played. I’ve adjusted graphics settings from low to max, but nothing seems to improve the performance. I have a strong setup with an i7 12700k, a 4070 ti Super, and 32GB of 3200MT/s RAM, all on a Z690P D4 motherboard.
I’ve even taken it to repair shops, and no one seems to know how to resolve this. The last resort I’m considering is a fresh install of Windows, but I’m hesitant since I’d have to reinstall numerous plugins for my music work, and I’m not sure it would actually fix the problem. I’ve moved data from two other laptops onto this one over the past eight years, so maybe a fresh start is what I need? I’m desperate for help here and willing to pay for any real solutions. It’s frustrating to drop $2k on a PC just to experience stuttering, especially in open-world and CPU-heavy games like BeamNG and GTA V.

Windows can get messy with all the background services and apps running. A clean install might help, but remember to only install essential applications. Also, keep an eye on CPU temperatures—make sure they’re within the safe range, especially since you’re on the LGA1700 socket. If all else fails, consider upgrading your CPU, though that might require a new motherboard.
Make sure to update all your drivers—graphics, chipset—and let us know which version of Windows you’re using and your motherboard BIOS release. Sometimes the latest updates can fix unexpected performance issues.
I’ve updated everything to the latest, but it’s still stuttering even on low settings!
You might be dealing with an Nvidia driver issue. Try downloading version 566.36 from their website, running DDU in safe mode without internet to uninstall, and then reinstalling that version. This might fix your stuttering problem!
I tried that! I’m already on 566.36.
I’d suggest trying a fresh Windows install on a different drive if possible. Just disconnect your other drives to avoid any risks of data loss. If this resolves the stuttering, you can then migrate your data back over. If not, at least you’ve tried!
So, can I boot Windows on a USB to test this?
Have you checked whether your video cable is plugged into the GPU instead of the motherboard? Also, if you’re using a riser, ensure it’s properly connected. It’s important to check if your operating system is on an SSD and whether it’s SATA or NVMe, and if it has DRAM cache. Also, using DDU to uninstall and reinstall your GPU drivers might help with the stuttering issue!
What’s a riser?
Will I need to upgrade my motherboard? My temps look good.
