While playing God of War 4 (the 2018 version), my game started lagging with awful frame rates, making it look like a slideshow. I tried to save my progress but after hitting the back button (circle), nothing worked. I even held down the PS button to try and exit, but still no response. Eventually, my PS5 went into power-saving mode since I hadn’t disabled it. I’m now stuck staring at a blank TV screen feeling pretty frustrated. This PS4 game was a monthly offering from PS Plus, and I’m using it on my PS5, so I wonder if that could be causing issues. My system software is up to date, but I’m hoping to find out if anyone has faced this problem and if there are any fixes. By the way, I discovered the error code CE-108262-9, but I’m not sure if that’s helpful or not.

I had a similar issue a couple of months ago. I ended up reinstalling the OS from a flash drive in safe mode and wiped my external hard drive. Make sure to back up your saves to the cloud because PS4 games don’t automatically do that! It turned out my external drive was corrupt, but since I was already cleaning everything up, it worked out. If you have an external hard drive, that might be a good place to start.
I’ll definitely try that! I’m so stressed out over this. Thanks for your help!
Is your PS5 running fine otherwise, or is it just God of War acting up? It’s worth checking if other games have the same freezing issue. It’s happened to me in other titles too, like FIFA 25. If it’s just God of War, you should’ve been able to exit through the PS button, which is weird. It’s tricky to say whether it’s related to the game or your system overall.
Yeah, that’s the thing! In my experience, it could either be a game-specific glitch or something more serious with the system. If you’re stuck, a hard reset might help too.
I faced this issue right after a system update too. I freed up space on my SSD, reinstalled the latest update, rebuilt the database, and cleared the cache. That did the trick for me! I was prepared to reinstall the OS if it didn’t work, but luckily I didn’t have to. Looking back, I think the update messed up some system files, and reinstalling the update fixed it. Good luck!
