Hey there! So my little brother tried swapping the CPU in his PC following my instructions over the phone since I live quite far away. They used an AM4 motherboard and the new CPU is an AMD R7 5700x3D. After the swap, the PC powers on with lights, but the monitor, keyboard, and mouse are unresponsive. I noticed he was doing the installation on a carpet, which got me worried about possible static electricity damage. If the components are fried, how can I check which ones? Or could it be something else that’s causing the issue? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Don’t forget to check if the BIOS was updated before the CPU swap! Sometimes, an outdated BIOS can lead to compatibility issues with new CPUs. If you get it running with the old one, make sure he updates it before trying the new one again!
Have you considered asking him to put the old CPU back in to see if that works? It could just be an issue with the new CPU. Unfortunately, without another system, it’s tough to check the other parts for damage. Best bet is to start with the old CPU and see where that gets you!
Yeah, I told him to give that a shot! We’ll probably try that later today since there’s not much else to test with.
Good point! I hadn’t thought about the BIOS. If the old CPU works, I’ll definitely remind him to update it.
