Help Me Pick Between Two PC Builds!

-

I’m trying to decide between two gaming PC builds that are both around the same price. Here’s what I have:
**Build 1:**
– **CPU:** Intel I5 12400F [1 Year Warranty]
– **GPU:** NVIDIA ZOTAC RTX 3070TI 8GB [3 Month Warranty]
– **Motherboard:** MSI H610 [3 Year Warranty]
– **RAM:** 32 GB DDR4 3000MHZ [1 Year Warranty]
– **SSD:** 512GB NVME [1 Year Warranty]
– **PSU:** 750 WATT [3 Year Warranty]

**Build 2:**
– **CPU:** Ryzen 9 5900x
– **Motherboard:** Gigabyte x570 Gaming X
– **RAM:** Corsair 32GB (16×2) 3600mhz DDR4
– **SSD:** Kingston 512GB NVME
– **Cooler:** Deepcool Dual Fan Air Cooler
– **GPU:** MSI RTX 3060 12GB DDR6
– **Case:** NZXT H510 Elite
– **PSU:** Corsair VS 650watt

The seller of Build 1 didn’t specify the brands of the power supply or the SSD, which makes me a bit suspicious. I’ll be using Linux and playing games like GTA 5 and CSGO at 1440p and 144Hz, but I already have a 1TB SSD so I don’t care about that part. Any advice on which build is better?

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend either build for Linux with an Nvidia GPU due to driver issues. I would suggest going with Build 2 but swapping the GPU for something like an AMD RX 7600 or 7700 if you can. Those tend to play nicely with Linux and perform well at 1440p. Just keep the focus on compatibility if you’re planning to stick with Linux!

Yeah, totally! AMD cards generally work better with Linux, plus they usually come at a good price-performance ratio.

If you’re looking to save money, I’d lean towards Build 2, especially if it’s significantly cheaper. The Ryzen 9 is a solid choice, and while the RTX 3060 isn’t the fastest, it should still handle most games well at your desired settings. If you currently have an 8GB GPU, upgrading to another 8GB one might not give you a significant boost in performance. Ultimately, just make sure Build 2 costs around $500 and avoid overpriced options!

Thanks for the advice! I’m still a total newbie, so any tips on what to look out for would be great!
