Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for a fantasy RPG demo that I played ages ago, and I’m hoping someone here might recognize it. Here’s what I remember:
– It’s a fantasy RPG with a hex-based combat system.
– Enemies had an action matrix to decide their moves, possibly involving a dice roll and triggers for some actions.
– The demo host mentioned that the enemy sheets allowed you to add actions to the matrix for more complex enemies.
– I think the facing of characters might have played a role in the gameplay.
I’m particularly interested in this game because I’ve been getting into solo gaming lately, and I heard it didn’t require a GM, which sounds perfect for me. If any of this rings a bell for you, I’d really appreciate your help!

That sounds a lot like some old D&D 4E board games, but they weren’t hex-based, so I could be off there. Just curious, how long ago did you play this? For me, ‘ages’ means about 20 years! I’m wondering if this was at a convention since I recall seeing a similar demo at a Toronto Breakout Convention just before the pandemic, but I can’t quite place the name.
Hey there! I tried something similar at the CNE a while back. I picked up a demo book for an RPG based on the light spectrum and another about beavers in space. I haven’t seen that gaming section since — it was the last year they had it separate!

Nah, it definitely wasn’t Buttons and Bugs! This demo was from maybe 6-7 years ago. Was Buttons and Bugs even around back then?
